about

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science

Having grown up in the Denver area, The Denver Museum was one of my favorite destinations and has made me, partially, who I am today.  It has gone through many changes since I first visited in the late 1950's. It is currently about twice the size it was back then.  Many displays have been added and some, regretfully, have been taken away.  The museum also plays host to traveling dispalys.  Among them have been:  The King Tut exhibit, The Wydah (a pirate ship) exhibit, and currently a Mayan exhibit.  If I were to describe the changes, I would have to say that they are more dynamic and interactive.  These are things which keep people coming back.

Originally, the first floor was dedicated to fossils and minerals.  Currently it is dedicated to minerals and space (including the planetarium).  The second and third floors were, and still are, dedicated to meticulus (stuffed) animal dioramas from around the world.  My family and friends would always try to find one more bug or baby animal that the others had missed in each display.  These floors also include the cultural (people-not stuffed) displays (usually ancient) from around the world.  The Egyptian dispay on the third floor does include mummys.  So, I guess there might be a couple that are sort of stuffed (or otherwise preserved).  The fossils are now displayed in one of the new wings on the third floor.

My intent here, with the Denver Museum photos, is not to go into verbal depth on anything.  But, to let the photos and their sub-titles speak for themselves.  We add new items and information, to the site, monthly.  Be sure to look for page links.  Over half the site (and ALL of the really cool non-product information, like this page) is buried in these page links.  So, just like at the museum, look for all the little things (links) that might otherwise be overlooked.  Enjoy!!!
