about

Disney Dinoland USA

Disney Dinoland USA is located inside Disney's Animal Kingdom at Disney World, Orlando, Florida. It is one of six areas within the Animal Kingdom Park.

As with all the Disney Parks, special attention is given to the environment.  This is even more true with Animal Kingdom.  You really feel like you are in the jungle, on the savana, or in the prehistoric forest.  Many of the plants that are present here have been imported from their natural locations, to create the right effect.

Inside the Dinoland USA part of the park is an Apatosaurus skeleton, under construction, with a walkway through and under it.  Just past that is an amusement park with rides similar to those you would find at any amusement park, with a dinosaur twist.

The main attraction in Dinoland USA is the ride Dinosaur.  The ride itself is kind of dark and jerky.  So, I don't have any photos from inside the ride.  It is also not suggested for those with a bad back.  As with most Disney rides, the que is full of interesting things to see while you are waiting for the ride itself.  In many ways, the que is as entertaining as the ride.  This particular que is full of skeletons and other fossils.

The ride cars look like they would be high-tec Humvees.  I believe they are the same cars used for the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland, in California.

The other main attraction inside Dinoland USA, is the dinosaur dig site play area.  They have really tried to give it the feel of a real dig site, but with a playground twist.  The play area includes a jeep body, a dinosaur trackway, a skeleton in the wall, several skeletons that can be climbed on, caves that can be explored, and scaffolds with slides.  You can also go up and walk through the Apatosaurus' rib cage.

There is also a restaurant for dining and a gift shop for all those things you don't need, but can't live without.  There are kiosks for snaks and drinks.  There are sites for learning about dinosaurs and for photo ops.

This is my favorite park within the Animal Kingdom, but only by a very narrow margin.  I wonder why!  Where else can you climb all over a bunch of fossils without getting into a heap of trouble.
