Mineral sculpture artist Vasily Konovalenko.

         The Denver Museum of Nature and Science holds one of the largest collections of mineral sculptures by Russian artist/sculpturer Vasily Konovalenko.  Each sculpture is made up of various minerals that are combined to create scenes that represent people from his native Russia.  These minerals, for the most part, do not occur together but are combined for these sculptures.  The minerals included in each sculpture are indicated on the title card, in front of each sculpture.  You may need to use a magnifying glass to read the information and view some of the sculpture detail.  We had to limit the size of the photos because there were so many of them.  If you get a chance, make a point to visit this exhibit.  The sculptures are very impressive.  Most of them stand 12 to 18 inches high.  What you see here is a large portion of one man's life's work.  Very impressive!
